Syed Adnan Hussain leads a conversation with Feisal G. Mohamed (Nowhere is Safe in Gaza) and Jamaluddin Aram (The Blood of Things) about horror, hope, and humanity.
Feisal G. Mohamed is a professor of English at Yale University. A past president of the Milton Society of America, his most recent books are 'Sovereignty' (2020) and 'Resistance' (in press). In addition to academic venues, his writing has appeared in The New York Times, Dissent Magazine, the Chronicle Review, The Yale Review, The American Scholar, Huffington Post, Boston Review, and on the website of The New Republic.
JAMALUDDIN ARAM is an Afghan-Canadian writer. His short story “This Hard Easy Life” was a finalist for the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award in 2020. His debut novel, Nothing Good Happens in Wazirabad on Wednesday, won the 2024 Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize in Literary Fiction. He is the associate producer of the Oscar nominated film Buzkashi Boys. He lives in Toronto.
Dr. Syed Adnan Hussain (Adnan) is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department for the Study of Religion at Saint Mary’s University. His work explores religion, law, empire, and the afterlives of colonialism. He holds an MTS from Candler School of Theology, a JD from Emory University focused on international human rights, and a PhD on the Islamic state. In addition to Saint Mary's he has taught at Dalhousie Law School and the University of Toronto. He has delivered a TEDx talk on decolonizing the past, and formerly chaired the American Academy of Religion’s Colonialism, Postcolonialism and Religion Section. He publishes on colonialism, love, film and law.
